Tyra Banks has a bold vision for the highly anticipated remake of The Bodyguard—and it stars none other than Taylor Swift in the lead role made famous by the late Whitney Houston. The supermodel and former America’s Next Top Model host recently shared her dream casting during an episode of Today with Jenna and Friends, where she said Swift would be a “perfect” fit to take on the legendary part.

“I think Taylor Swift, because business, commerce, art, and she would frickin’ sell like crazy,” Banks said. She even added a modern twist to the classic 1992 romantic thriller, suggesting the studio flip the script when it comes to the lead couple’s dynamic. “What if we flipped it, and it was Taylor Swift and Idris Elba?” Banks proposed, which co-host Jenna Bush Hager quickly co-signed with excitement.
Originally starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, The Bodyguard followed a famous singer, Rachel Marron (Houston), who falls in love with her bodyguard Frank Farmer (Costner) while he protects her from a dangerous stalker. The film was a global hit, and Houston’s performance—including the unforgettable “I Will Always Love You”—cemented her legacy in both film and music history.

With a remake officially in the works at Warner Bros., longtime Swifties are already speculating that their favorite pop star might be stepping into Houston’s iconic heels. That theory only gained momentum when it was announced that Sam Wrench, the director of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film, is set to helm the reboot. Wrench captured Swift’s record-shattering tour in cinematic form, creating the highest-grossing concert film of all time, pulling in over $261 million at the global box office.

Now, Wrench is reportedly set to direct The Bodyguard remake, marking another potential collaboration between him and Swift. The screenplay is being written by Jonathan Abrams, who also wrote Clint Eastwood’s Juror #2. The film’s development has seen several iterations since 2011, but with this creative team in place, it seems the project may finally be gaining real traction.

While nothing is officially confirmed, Tyra Banks’ endorsement adds fuel to the fire. With Swift’s proven star power, acting chops, and global reach, she could bring a whole new generation to a story that once defined an era. Whether fans are ready for someone to take on Houston’s beloved role is another matter—but if anyone can bring in the numbers and carry the emotional weight, Banks believes it’s Taylor.
And as for the idea of Swift paired with Idris Elba? Tyra summed it up best: “That would be so hot.”
